Using Canon 5d As Compact Flash Reader For Mac

Windows 7 will not read CF Cards from Internal Reader I cannot get my brand new Windows 7 computer with a built in card reader to read CF cards. When I insert the cards, a green light on the reader comes on, but nothing appears in my computer and I cannot find the files through Adobe Bridge either. I currently use a Lexar Professional reader that is USB 2.0 The cards I'm using are Sandisk Extreme III and Lexar Professional 133x cards. I have a MAC so I could also use firewire. I need a fast reader because I work for a sports presswire service and I upload during the event so time is critical for me.

The Canon 5D Mark II digital SLR offers professional camera features you can use to shoot still photographs and high-definition video for your company and clients. When you're ready to review, edit and select from among the images and footage you've shot, you can connect the camera to your MacBook Pro. Unlike some digital cameras and other peripheral devices, the Canon 5D MKII includes the accessories and software you need to get started on your image evaluation.

1.

Launch the Image Browser software provided with your Canon 5D MKII. The installer for the software places an icon for the application in the dock, so you can start the program with one click.

2.

Turn the camera off. Flip open the port cover on the camera's left edge to locate the USB port. Plug in the IFC-200U USB cable with the USB icon on its connector facing toward the front of the camera. Plug the other end into a USB port on the MacBook.

3.

Turn the camera on. The EOS Utility software provided with the camera and installed on your Mac launches when the computer detects the camera.

4.

Click on 'Starts to Download Images' on the Control Camera screen of the EOS Utility. Your picture files download to your Pictures folder. Click on the 'Quit' button in the EOS Utility when the download completes. Switch your camera off and disconnect the USB cable.

5.

View your images in Image Browser. The EOS Utility automatically sorts your picture files into date-specific folders.

Tips

  • You also can use Image Browser with a USB card reader. This third-party peripheral device avoids the need to use your camera for file transfers.
  • Image Browser also plays movie files, prints images and transfers pictures back to your memory card.
  • The USB cable supplied with your camera uses different connector sizes on each end. The small connector fits the USB port on your camera. The large connector plugs in to the USB port on your MacBook Pro.

Warning

  • Canon recommends that you always turn off the camera before you connect or disconnect its USB cable.
